Opt out of Unwanted Interactions, Opt for Protecting Our Kids
It’s estimated that half a million predators are active online each day.
What Are Unwanted Interactions?
In the digital world, it’s important to be aware of inappropriate communications between adults and children. Social media has provided people with newfound access to interact with just about anyone. Unfortunately, predators are using these platforms to target and manipulate kids.
These unwanted interactions can range from sexually explicit conversations — that include grooming, sextortion, or online enticement — to phishing for sensitive personal information to enticing minors to obtain illicit substances like drugs and alcohol. The consequences are dire.
School-issued tech lacks the proper security measures to thwart the unwanted advances of predators, giving these dangerous people access to our children.
Predator Contacts A 10-Year-Old Girl In School
A 10-year-old girl from California was able to access Discord – an online communication service – via a school-issued device, and through the instant messaging app had explicit conversations with a potential predator in Texas. When the girl’s father confronted the school about the incident, he was horrified to learn that Discord was made available to their elementary-aged students, even though the site has an age requirement of 13 and up.
